Me and Bluey
I buried my mate yesterday.
I’m hurting a lot, missing him. He was always there. There for 15 years. Always.
While we had him for a smaller part of our life, we were his whole life.
He was my constant partner in everything from running, walking, swimming, surfing, surf life saving, and manhunt in the sand dunes.
Border collies, like humans, are hard wired to be highly active both physically and mentally. Like humans, without this they suffer, they wither, they become melancholic and even destructive.
Luckily, Bluey came into an active family.
But what can Bluey teach us about life?
More than anything else Bluey was the epitome of being present.
Every run was the best ever run, every walk, his best ever, every meal – best ever!
Every movie we watched together was the best ever. Bluey lived in the moment, and for that reason his life was awesome.
That’s the lesson. Memento mori.
Tongue lolling in the wind as we battle the howling rain and headwind on the deep sandy Tairua Ocean Beach. He’s right there in the best run of his life.
Thanks mate. I loved making life, and this video with you.
Rest in peace Bluey
