Choose your hard

IT’S TIME TO SET A GOAL THAT SCARES THE SH*T OUT OF YOU

#CHOOSEYOURHARD

What's a Misogi?

Have you ever done something so HARD it defined your entire year?

Ran a marathon. Started a business. Ended one. Quit drinking. Faced something you’d been avoiding for years.

Enter Misogi: The ancient Japanese Shinto ritual of purification through extreme challenge. Traditionally, it’s about cleansing the body and spirit under icy waterfalls. But today, it’s evolved into a yearly rite of doing one thing so brutally challenging, it redefines your limits and echoes through the other 364 days.

Does the following sound familiar?

“I’ll only have two biscuits tonight instead of x.”

“I’ll cut back on wine for…(insert arbitrary feel-good time frame).”

“But this week has been hard because…(insert external blame here).”

You’ve said it. We all have. In a world that peddles easy fixes like pills and procedures first, Misogi flips how we set goals and think about health. It’s about choosing hard to unlock your potential.

It’s time to set a goal that scares the shit out of you. Yes, we are no longer just talking and thinking about doing hard things. It’s time to take action.

Create Your Misogi

Does it scare you at least a little?

Not mildly uncomfortable. Genuinely uncertain about whether you can do it.

Think bigger.

A Misogi should make you genuinely uncertain. If you're not a little scared, the challenge isn't big enough yet. Go back and raise the stakes.

Hint: What would you do if you had 10 times the self belief?

Is it specific?

Not "get fit." Something like: "run the Auckland Marathon on October 26th." A date, a definition, a finish line.

Add the details.

Vague goals die quietly. Add a specific date, a clear definition of done, and a finish line you can point to on a calendar.

Hint: What would you do if you had 10 times the self belief?

Does it break the laws of physics?

If yes, alter it. If no, congratulations. You've found your Misogi. Now set the date and commit.
